Inquiry Phase 1 - Engage
The initial phase of inquiry is called 'Engage' and is intended to present a motivating, stimulating, and interesting hook for learning, to probe students for their prior knowledge on a topic, and perhaps most importantly, to identify alternative conceptions and misconceptions that students might hold about a topic (Marshall et al, 2009, p.506). Virtual Field Trips at the beginning of an inquiry can engage students by exposing them to new material, people, contexts, and ideas. The interest generated by the use of technology, and by making new local and global connections, can inspire students to be excited about learning.
