Inquiry Phase 4 - Extend
The fourth phase of inquiry is called 'Extend' and asks student to use higher-order thinking strategies. By applying, elaborating, transferring and generalizing their learning, students can put all the pieces of the puzzle together. Again, if students are provided an opportunity to connect with experts in the field about which they are inquiring, they can learn how to move forward and extend their thinking and their learning. The cycle thus appears iterative; further extension work can act as the catalyst for a new cycle of inquiry.
And now it is on to you. Extend your thinking by learning how to develop your own Virtual Field Trip
Guiding Questions
Questions in the Extend ask students to transfer their knowledge to new and different situations.
